Black Redstart update 2026

Black Redstart update 2026

5 singing males for 2026

Early June a pair appeared at a City centre site and then one fledgling

Late July a 2nd pair had 2 fledglings

Then early September the 2nd pair had a single fledgling

(I suspect Magpies may have got this fledgling/other chicks)

It appears the City centre fledgling found the 2nd pair site. So for a few weeks 6 BR on that site

Then I assume the 2 fledglings/juveniles were driven out by the other BR

So September & October 4 BR remained. Adult, female, 1st year male, juvenile

The 1st year male and juvenile were often close together so maybe the juvenile is a female

The 1st year male had tried to drive the adult male from the site but it remained with it's female partner to have the 2 broods noted above

The adult male had a full moult so was less active and distant. This finished end of September.

When the moult finished it chased the 1st year bird. This resulted in the 1st year bird injuring it's foot so it stuck to middle ground & building.

Then October the female and juvenile/maybe female started chasing
